BIRD HABITATS AROUND THE MOLINO DEL CANTO
Varios son los hábitats que se pueden visitar alrededor de la Posada y en ellos es posible observar una buena variedad de aves.
Desde la Posada te ofrecemos la posibilidad de pajarear para descubrir las espectaculares aves que esta comarca acoge.
Sin lugar a dudas los cañones y páramos son los hábitats más característicos de toda la comarca, ya que existen afloramientos calizos por toda ella.
Los ríos, principalmente el río Ebro ha labrado profundos cañones en los que diferentes especies de aves se han asentado, buitres leonados, águilas, alimoches, halcones, cuervos, aviones, vencejos, chovas, roqueros….
A la vez los ríos que han labrado estos cañones, mantienen un buen estado de conservación y es posible ver los bosques de galería mejor conservados de la provincia, repletos de Alisos y Fresnos.En ellos gran cantidad de pequeñas aves se reproducen en verano y encuentran alimento en invierno, páridos, fringílidos, mosquiteros, currucas, zorzales, bisbitas y aves más relacionadas con el medio acuático como ánades, cormoranes, martines pescadores, mirlos acúaticos, garzas, lavanderas…

Limestone outcrops are the characteristic feature of the area around the Molino del Canto.
The Ebro and other rivers have cut deep canyons through the limestone landscape, where various species of Vultures, Eagles, Falcons, Crows and Choughs, Martins, Swifts, Thrushes, and others have made their home.
These rivers are clean and often run within beautiful riverside woodlands of alder and ash. These are inhabited by many smaller birds – Tits, Finches, Warblers, Thrushes, Pipits, and water birds such as various Ducks, Cormorants, Kingfishers, Dippers, Wagtails and Herons.
The valleys in the area around the Molino del Canto are fertile, and among the fields and meadows are small woods, thickets and stands of fruit trees. These are alive with Warblers, Finches, Thrushes, Crows, Tits, Shrikes, Swallows, Tree Creepers and various birds of prey.
Spring is a particularly good time in these landscapes, when the birds have their summer plumage and sing from vantage points in and around the woods.
Plateaux are an interesting environment. The scarce vegetation, the local climatic conditions and insect life mean that interesting birds can be seen here. Little Owls, Larks, Shrikes, Buntings, Pipits, Wheatears, Harriers, Kestrels, Buzzards and other attractive species are here.
Woods in the area around the Molino del Canto are long-established and quite wild, which can make it harder to spot birds, particularly in Spring and Summer when the leaf cover is most dense.
In autumn, as the leaves change color and begin to fall, the Woods are particularly beautiful and birds become more visible. In Winter, although the weather can be less appealing and bird plumage and behaviour not so dramatic, wildlife becomes easier to spot.
The most typical woods are of beech and oak, with woodpeckers, Tree Creepers and tits to be seen, but also Sparrowhawks y Goshawks.
In pinewoods, although many of these are newer and less diverse planting, there is still a valuable habitat for many species, particularly Tits, Woodpeckers, Tree Creepers and Crossbills.
Whatever the season, these woods are beautiful in themselves, and populated by wildlife of many kinds. For city dwellers in particular, a day’s walking here is good for the soul.

Tenemos diferentes posibilidades para que puedas disfrutar de las aves de la provincia de Burgos.
Dispones en eBird de toda la información ornitológica de la comarca de Las Merindades, la comarca de Sedano y Las Loras o del Embalse del Ebro. Si no sabes manejar eBird, te asesoramos para que le saques todo el partido.
Puedes compatibilizar estos puntos de observación con PRs o GRs ya establecidos y bien señalizados muchos de ellos dentro del Parque Natural de las Hoces del Ebro y Rudrón.
Ponemos a tu disposición mapas, lista de especies más características y consejos de interés.
Así mismo disponemos de prismáticos y guías de identificación de alquiler.
Pajareando con MCBirding
Te acompañaremos a través de diferentes lugares e iremos localizando , identificando y registrando las especies de aves que salgan a nuestro encuentro en las cercanías de la Posada Molino del Canto.
Tenemos de guías de consulta de identificación, prismáticos y telescopio de observación.

También podemos pajarear por diferentes lugares de las comarcas de Las Merindades y la comarca de Sedano y Las Loras o el Embalse del Ebro. En ellas nos desplazaremos en vehículo hasta los lugares de interés, visitando diferentes hábitats.

No se realizarán observaciones de nidos y se pondrá especial cuidado en áreas donde se reproduzcan especies catalogadas como vulnerables, amenazadas o en peligro.
No se realizarán observaciones utilizando ningún dispositivo que de alguna forma atraiga a las aves, señuelos, reclamos…
Se mantendrá en todo momento una máxima de respeto por las aves, ya sea en sus lugares de nidificación , descanso o alimentación, intentando al máximo la menor o nula molestia posible.
Al estar trabajando con fauna silvestre nunca se garantizará la observación de ninguna especie en concreto ni de listas de aves preestablecidas.
SI REALIZAS OBSERVACIÓN DE AVES POR TU CUENTA
Utiliza los caminos y miradores señalizados, respeta la propiedad privada, prados, sembrados, caminos y pistas cerradas al tránsito, usa correctamente portillas para ganado.
Siempre hay que anteponer el bienestar de la fauna que vamos a observar a nuestro interés. Respeta la distancia y no persigas a aves u otros animales.
Casi todas las aves están protegidas por la ley, así que evita el uso de reclamos o señuelos y respeta sus lugares de nidificación, descanso y alimentación.
Antes de iniciar una ruta de observación recaba toda la información posible, contacta con asociaciones, empresas o guías especializados de la zona que piensas visitar.
Si llevas perro, no lo dejes suelto, respeta la ruta y sus elementos, sin recolectar ni flora, ni fauna, ni minerales.
Asóciate, una sociedad o asociación ornitológica te posibilitará un mayor conocimiento de las aves y conservación y sus posibilidades de observación.
No dejes basura, ni hagas fuego y recuerda que cuanto menos ruido se realice, más oportunidad de realizar buenas observaciones.
Self-guided tours
We offer various self-guided tours in the comarcas of Las Merindades and Sedano y las Loras. Some of these routes can be done on foot from the Molino del Canto itself, following the well-marked network of GR and PR trails. Others involve driving to a particular site of interest.
Each of the tours comes with maps, information about species to look out for and other information of interest.
We have hire of binoculars and field guides.
Guided tours

Take half a day – around 4 hours. They follow waymarked GR and PR routes from the door of the Posada – no need to drive – and go equipped with identification guides, binoculars and a telescope.
⇒ Guided tours by motor vehicle
Take you to various sites in the area around the Posada, with short walking sections at each stop to access the best viewpoints. They can be of whole day ( +/- 7 hours) or half day duration (+/- 4 hours).
These tours go equipped with field guides, binoculars and a telescope.
Maximum group: 6 persons

No nest observations will be made and special care will be taken in areas where species cataloged as vulnerable, threatened or endangered are reproduced.
No observations will be made using any device that in any way attracts birds, lures, claims …
We do not approach nest sites or attempt to watch sitting birds, and we ask great care on the part of our clients when in areas used for nesting by vulnerable species. Our primary concern is for the wellbeing of the birds themselves.
And of course, given that we are seeking to observe wild animals in their habitat, we must state that no guarantee is possible of seeing any particular bird.
Our advice to the birdwatcher
Please stick to marked paths and viewpoints. Respect private property, growing crops and fields, paths and tracks marked as private. Take care to close livestock gates, and remember that people in the rural areas work very hard – don’t make their life difficult by inconsiderate behaviour.
Make the welfare of the wildlife your priority. Keep your distance: don’t pursue or interfere with birds or other animals, and in particular keep away from nesting sites. Do not use decoys or bird lures. It is worth remembering that the less noise you make, the more wildlife you are likely to see.
And please note that most bird species are now protected by law. Please do not put yourself in contravention.
Do not pick flowers, hunt for minerals or remove any wildlife.
Dogs should always be kept on a lead.
And of course, do not leave rubbish or start fires.
One last word of advice: it is worth joining an ornithological or conservation body in your own country. Their expertise and information can help you get the most out of your own interest in birds and in wildlife, as well as contributing to the conservation effort.
