Two days of intense birding, although somewhat influenced by the wind , which has avoided seeing some species more quietly.
Yet the number of species recorded has been very good , 58 species on the first day and 72 the second , with a total of 82 species .
Many of the records will be part of the new Atlas of Breeding Birds of SEO/BirdLife. Over the next four years, our birding routes in spring will be part of this Atlas .
We toured the northern area of P.N. Cañones del Alto Ebro y Rudrón and the southeast area of Ebro water reservoir, cover a differences habitats, took us to go through several very different habitats, pastures, upland areas, forests, villages and a large body of water.
Started with one of the species that later comes to their migration , the Red-backed Shrike , with very good distribution along the routes. Later we located the bigger of the European Shrikes , Southern Grey Shrike.
Undoubtedly, the most abundant species Stonechat and Corn Bunting .
Good records of raptors, Short-toed Eagle , Montagu’s Harrier, Marsh Harrier and Vultures .
Several species of warblers , Blackcap and Bonelli’s Warbler, as the most recorded. Finches mixed, Serin , Goldfinch , Greenfinch , Linnet ….
Aquatic species recorded in the Ebro water reservoir were not many, the high level of the reservoir (98 %) , avoid that appropriate shores for waders. Grebes , the group most represented with three species. We recorded a small group of 6 Spoonbills in breeding plumage , as always interesting and striking.
